On July 2003 customs officials of “Bara” customs post seized 48 600 kg of poppy-seeds suitable for growing which were
being transported by transit through the Azerbaijan territory from the Kandahar, Afghanistan to Delhi, India with the
documents containing false information. According to the experts, these poppy seeds were subject to be plated on the area
of 11.226 ha. Further, they were burnt in the presence of the members of the State Commission, international organizations,
ambassadors accredited in Azerbaijan and mass media.
