Agreement on Azeri gas supplies to Russia can cover Shah Deniz gas as well
The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) does not rule out that the agreement on Azeri gas export to Russia in 2010-15 signed in Baku yesterday between SOCAR's president Rovnag Abdullayev and Gaszprom's chairman of board Alexey Miller can also spread on the gas produced by country's other gas operators.
At the signing ceremony the SOCAR president claimed that the signed agreement is a contract for Azeri gas sale & purchase.
"It can spread on Azeri gas from any sources," he added.
SOCAR vice rpesident Elshad Nasirov said, in his turn, that prospects of supplies within the framework of this agreement from Shah Deniz field (Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea) would depend only on results of SOCAR-Gazprom co-operation.
The beginning of gas production within Phase 2 of Shah Deniz Project is scheduled for 2016, but the SOCAR-Gazprom contract was signed with a possibility of its extension.
Under the contract, gas supplies will be launched since 1 January 2010 from primary volume of 500 million cu m a year. The upper level of SOCAR supply volume for Russia was not fixed.
The price for delivered gas will be calculated on known formulae on the basis of value of oil and petroleum products.
In Baku the sides signed an agreement on basic principles of the contract and both parties were satisfied with observation of schedule when drafting the contract.
Azerbaijan's existing pipeline capacities allow the country to export 5 bn cu m of gas a year to Russia.
